‘Homeless and Hopeful’ follows the life journey of individuals who have bravely agreed to share their story. This is remarkable in itself because anyone who has spent time speaking with a homeless person will attest to the fact that in addition to feeling isolated, lonely and invisible, the mental health illnesses they confront can lead to crippling anxiety and depression.

Mental health presents itself as a common thread throughout all of the life stories irrespective of whether the individual has battled domestic violence, drug addiction, alcoholism, financial distress and more.

Exercise, in particular running, becomes a passion and in some cases an addiction, for each individual as they look for purpose, meaning and a more fulfilling life. The friendships, comradery and sense of community that On My Feet delivers through running shines through in each story making them warm and heartfelt.

Finally, employment emerges as the solution to the challenge of self-sufficiency and breaking the cycle of homelessness and it becomes evident that in each case sustainable employment, and therefore a life off the streets, would not have been possible without the improved physical and mental health, the education in life skills and the love and support of an incredible group of volunteers who genuinely want the best for some of Australia’s most vulnerable people.
‘Homeless and Hopeful’ aims to inspire people struggling with life to dream big, aim high and believe in themselves.
